Cooler Cross Section
More Surface Area, Better Flow, Reduced Inlet Temperature!
Air density is simply determined through a formula using temperature and pressure— as the pressure and temperature changes so does air density. We measure the temperature and pressure before and after the intercooler and apply the formula to determine the cooling effectiveness of the Intercoolers.
When replacing the stock intercooler on a modified high horsepower engine with a modified intercooler, manifold turbo boost often shows an increase because of the restricted stock application, but, one must also consider the temperature of the air after the intercooler to determine true cooling effectiveness/air density.
Our Micro extruded tube design has good flow characteristics with superior cooling effectiveness because each tube contains extruded fins. These tubes maintain there seal under high pressure and heat. This durable design is for high boost, high temperature, high flow competitive applications.
BD’s testing is done according to SAE standards contrary to others whom make up there own tests and measuring devices.
The Cool-It intercooler’s extruded tube design offers numerous advantages compared to other designs on the market:
- Highest thermal efficiency temperature easily transfers through the solid aluminum extruded tubes — the smaller more efficient design allows up to 10% more cooling tubes to be used
- Highest consistency of internal structure — each extruded tube contains rows of internal extrusions with internal fins
- Greatest strength, resistance to “ballooning” and separation — extruded from a solid piece of aluminum, braising only required on the tank ends of the tubes
- Unobstructed air passage to engine radiator — smaller more efficient tube allows more air flow to occur between the tubes for radiator cooling; external tube is round and very aerodynamic. Other designs can result in loss of Hp and engine cooling because of there restrictive design.
Early intercooler designs of many manufactures that have welded tanks soon discover that these units will not hold up to high boost pressures. Internal stuffed tube design cores are also susceptible to breaking down from pressure and high temperatures
Since 2008, BD has been using cast end tanks that have internal support struts and we have always used extruded tube intercooler cores. Our intercooler designs are fuel enhanced engines that will produce up to 4 times the stock boost pressures and 60% higher turbo outlet temperatures. They work good for stock applications but are designed for high performance applications with high air flow rates supporting high horse power engines.
Compare the costs today of our extruded tube cores with our durable cast end tanks, you will choose the best intercooler on the market. No advertising gimmicks, no reverse graphs and no ‘BS’.
