twin turbos

looking for a compound turbo setup for a 1999 dodge cummins 3500 5 speed manual tranny.i currently have edge with attitude,diablo power puck,snow performace stage 3,bd 100hp injectors,fass titanium 150 fuel pump,banks 4inch monster exhaust,ats air intake,ats exhaust manifold,ats aurora 3000 turbo,arp head studs. i tow about 7000lb in summer,egt's get up to 1300 while towing.also will need a new exhaust brake i have the bd turbo mount one right now not sure if the standard twin setup is big enough for my setup i was estimated to have close to 500hp right now

Sounds like a pretty good setup, Russell. Depending on how much more power you're looking for you could use our Tow Twins, or even get into our R700's. The Tow Twins are designed to support up to 575hp, so this will give you some growing room over what you have now. The R700's support up to 700hp which would give you more growing room, but of course have more lag than the Tow Twins. Personally I'd go with the Tow Twins as the mid-500hp range gives you excellent towing power, reasonable EGT's and good reliability from your drivetrain.

You're right about the exhaust brake: it won't fit with twin turbo's. We have a 4" remote-mounted vacuum-actuated brake that'll work for you. It should work with your existing exhaust brake controls, so all you'll need is the brake itself and the pipe adapters and clamps.

One thing I want to mention is head studs: we've found that running twins and water-methanol together results in very high cylinder pressures, so you need to have studded your head and preferably o-ringed it.

thank you for the info now on the water/methonal i olny run strait water it works much better only useing it to cool my egt's truck runs much better off strait water

Hard to say how straight water vs. water-meth with affect cylinder pressures. I suppose it would tend to lower the peak pressure as you are not adding an extra fuel (methyl alcohol) and the water acts as a buffer, slowing combustion and therefore reducing the pressure spike at the beginning of the combustion event. None the less, when you're spraying water into your cylinders you're always going to get higher pressures, so plan on studding the head regardless.

You'll probably be ok then, although I would still advise tuning the water-meth so that you're using only as much as you need to control pyro temps. The twins will naturally bring EGT's down to start with, so with a moderate amount of water going in you should be fine.

install questions

i was wondering how hard it is to install the twins on a 99 dodge cummins i have heard that it can be a very tight fit just what i have read on the internet was wondering if you had any pics of a kit installed also was wondering if i could get an idea on how much the vacume remote mount exhaust brake would run me i only need the brake and exhaust flanges i allready have the turbo mount vacume exhaust brake and was told by bd that i can use the controler i have on the remote mount one

The fitment on the twin kit isn't too bad, you shouldn't need to modify anything to make it fit outside of what is provided in the kit. You can download the install manual from our website & give it a read if you like. Our book time on the install is 12 hours, so expect to spend a weekend putting it in.
Yes, for the exhaust brake we can set you up with a new brake, adapters and marmon clamps for about $600. Your existing controls should work fine, you'll just need to extend the lines down to the new brake location.

turbo

ok im having a hard time getting the money set aside for twins and i will be useing my truck at the end of the month i know my ats aurora 3000 is to small now would i get lower egt's and more boost out of the super b turbo my aurora 3000 only puts out 32psi when i hammer on it towing and egt's can spike above 1500 on the long hills pulling my trailer would i see more boost and lower egt's out of the super b i can always order the upgrade twin kit later

32psi sounds pretty low from an Aurora 3000. According to their website that turbo provides 65lbs/min so it should comfortably support 450hp or so, which is the same as the Super-B. I would expect it to run boost pressures in the low-to-mid 40psi range. Have you tried tuning the wastegate?

not many people know but a ats aurora 3000 turbo has no external wastegate not sure why boost is low i did install 100hp injectors right before winter so maybe boost will be higher then it was with the stock injectors

Yes, with stock injectors the turbo won't be driven as hard, hence the lower boost level. I expect you'll see a big difference with those 100hp injectors.

what is the part number for the 4inch remote mount vacume activated exhaust brake for a 1999 dodge cummins 24 valve

The items you'll need are a #1137005 exhaust brake, plus two each of a #1100400 Marmon adapter and #1100404 Marmon clamp.

12v exhuste brake

what is different about the 12v cummins exhaust brake ver the 24v exhaust brake can i use the setup off my 24v and put it on a 12v do i just not use the wire from the apps and will that work for the 12v or do i need a different controler this is the turbo mount vacume activated brake

There's a couple things to keep in mind:
-12 valves require the heavy-duty exhaust valve springs to be installed. Our PN for that kit is 1030060.
-The 24 valve brake comes with a seperate adapter that goes on the back of the turbo, then the elbow/exhaust brake clamps to it. You won't need the adapter for the 12 valve.
-The only difference in the contol set-up is 12 valves with manual transmissions don't have an APPS, so you need to use a microswitch on the pedal instead of a DFIV module, or you can run without a pedal switch at all. If the truck has an auto, it'll have an APPS and then the DFIV hooks up just like on the 24 valve. You can download the instruction manuals off our website if you need to.
